2015 Sonic LS 1.8l Automatic
Couple of weekends ago , we drained and refilled the transmission with Havoline Dexron VI synthetic fluid . The transmission has a fill cap / opening on top , a level / overflow plug / opening on the side & drain plug / opening on the bottom .
Drain as much fluid , out through the drain opening . ( Fluid was dark at 26,000 + miles . ) Will drain a little quicker with the fill cap removed .
Remove the overflow plug . We added almost 4 quarts , until fluid ran out the overflow opening .
Put everything back together & drove it until up to temperature .
Removed the overflow plug , with the car idling in Park , and added about another quart of fluid .
All in all , about 5 quarts , total .
I removed the LF tire and part of the plastic inner fender liner , to gain better access to the overflow plug . Used a ratchet , medium extension and 11mm ( i think ) socket , to remove and reinstall the overflow plug . Same size for the drain plug . Long skinny funnel to add fluid in the top fill opening .
