ECM Question
Hey everyone, I tried searching the thread but it didn't come up with anything under "ECM", so I'm going to make a new post.
I'm wondering if anyone knows how to reset the ECM on the 06 Aveo (1.6L), and/or if you know where I can get a cheap replacement for one? And is this something that I can install myself? I'm fairly technical.
Since I can see it now; "why do you need an ECM?" One word: P2135. ...I hate that code.
So, I bought my Aveo 2 years ago because it was the only car that we could afford. After about 8 months it threw the P2135 code (accelerator pedal position sensor). So, I bought a new pedal assembly and replaced it.
The code went away...for about 6 or 7 months, then it came back. So, highly upset, I bought a new one and replaced it again. The code went away.
5 months later the code came back. This pedal was still under warranty. At this point I'm thinking it's not the pedal, but I replaced it again anyway. The error went away.
Until it came back. This time my mechanic noticed that my throttle-body was faulty and we replaced it. That was April. The code went away.
And, Saturday, the code came back. Logically; it's not the actual sensor. There's no way that 3 different sensors will go bad in that time frame. And it's not the throttle body, that was just replaced. So it's either the wiring, or the computer. If it were a wiring issue the code would come back almost immediately after replacing the part because a physical connection failure due to a broken wire isn't going to be intermittent. So, that means its the computer. The mechanic is quoting me $600-700. I've already spent more than $4000 in replairs in the last 2 years; 2x pedal assemblies, throttle body, front axle, radiator, front passenger wheel hub, front windshield, etc. I'm getting sick of fixing this car. The mechanic is telling me it'll take a week for the computer to get here and that it'll take hours to complete the work. I'm sure I can find it easier. If not, I at least want to reset the computer to buy some time. It's the only car we have and I have to get to work. If the car dies completely I'm screwed. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I don't know where it is located except under the hood. You need to take your vin to wherever you trade, I'd suggest a reconditioned one, would be alot cheaper than new. It will have to be programmed thats why you need the vin. Is the sensor a "quality one? Cheap stuff won't last but about as long as you are having.
I would hope it was a "quality" sensor. One of them I ordered through AutoZone and the other one through my dealership.
I know physically where the ECM is at within the engine compartment.
I was asking more along the lines of where I could buy a replacement unit. Luckily my wife managed to track one down through the local dealership for just a few hundred bucks and our mechanic is going to reprogram it, so hopefully the car will stay running until the part gets here.

Next time, to test, unplug the TPS and then plug it back in, it might be a bad connection somewhere...
