P0304 and Stabilitrak
I have a 2016 (turbo) with 42k on it.
Today out of nowhere it starts shuddering, the Stabilitrak light comes on, as well as the check engine (it was blinking and later alternated between solid and blinking). Acceleration is non existent.
I pulled over, turned it off, waited and experienced the same thing when I turned it back on. I had it towed.
I ran the ODBII codes and it says P0304 and P0304 P.
Research tells me it is the cylinder 4 misfire which can be caused by any number of different things.
OK fine.
Rewind..... Last time I had an issue I took the car to the only local Chevy dealership as they said the particular fix for that issue was under warranty. It wasn't. They charged me to read that code even though I already told them what the code was. I had them do the work, paid and left. Immediately there was another problem. I drove it just to be sure. Then brought it back and at that point they did work without my permission and expected me to pay for it.
Not for nothing it was an issue with the right front bearing.
I do NOT want to go back there for this new problem.
I went into chat with Chevy and got someone who is likely sitting in a foreign country. I give my VIN and ask if this issue is covered under warranty. No. My Powertrain warranty expired over a year ago. The rep of course insists I should go to a dealer.
But I do wonder if any old garage can fix this or do I absolutely need a dealer. And if I do does it have to be a Chevy dealer (could I take it in to a GM dealership - I found one a few blocks away).
