There is not much anyone can do to recover costs, GM is not in the mood to pay for repairs. The problems is that, while it is a big deal if it happend to you, this is not a big deal to GM. Statistically few belts have broken. Remember I said "Statistically few"! See, somehow an early batch of low quality timing belts and/or pulleys were used on these engines. "Most" of them lasted long enough (60,000 miles) until they were replaced. Because so few failed GM did not want to, did not have to, do anything about it. Some owners got left with broken belts and big bills.

Hi. It happened to me too.
My timing belt just went out on my 2004 aveo. I have 80,000 mile on it. it damaged my engine and need a new val job. 1500 bucks later. did you file a class action suit? i don't know what to do. my extended warranty on my car didn't cover it because i didn't have the belt replaced at 60000. ridiculous!

Angry Chevy Aveo Timing Belt/Lawsuit

My 2004 Chevy Aveo has had nothing but problems since the day I bought it. My timing belt broke at 66000 miles bending all the valves. Luckily I have a mechanic who loves me and did not charge me labor.
I have discussed this with Chevy at length and continue to do so. I am SERIOUSLY considering a class action lawsuit. Chevy knows that the car is made with inferior Daewoo parts and will not take any responsibility for this vehicle. If anyone is interested in suing Chevy for the cost of your repair please contact me at hrobin1975@yahoo.com. I have 2 different attorneys who are willing to take the case if we can get enough people together. I don't know about you but when I bought my Aveo I was not in the market for a disposable vehicle. Chevy needs to take responsibility for this sorry excuse for a vehicle.

is beginning to look like GM has not addressed this issue when they bought Daewoo. For people to record, the Daewoo Lanos, the model sold by Kalos (Aveo and now), had problems with the failure of tuberculosis in the beginning.

I know this is old but the issue is few back then, I think Gm have been resolve some of the daewoo recalls issues.
