Question about radio and gps
I have the ID7SS radio in my car. I was wandering what all is in and controlled by the actual radio and whats handled by the car. I know wifi and Bluetooth is on the radio itself. But what about the cellular data and gps? Reason im askin is i want to ether nuke the firmware on the radio and replace it or just replace it outright. Mainly because the bluetooth is HOT garbage.

Okay so I've torn into the radio on this thing. It doesn't seem like anything is controlled by the screen portion itself. Everything's controlled by the unit behind it that it hooks up to. Now if the screen is unplugged you can't control the radio for some reason. There is a USB mini b on the back as well as a proprietary connector that hooks up to the main computer of the radio. But the most important part. You don't lose GPS, the ability to lock and unlock your car, and what I assume would be the ability to stop and start your car. I don't have that on mine. None of that is controlled from the portion that you touch. Now whether or not hooking up another radio with its own Bluetooth and stuff onto it is going to be a problem. I don't know yet. I don't even know if the main box is replaceable. My next step, I don't really want to do this, is to take the main box out and see if I can replace the Bluetooth module on the main portion. Do I doubt they just have a PCI Bluetooth module on the board? Yes. But it's worth a shot.
