my 01 chevy tahoe wont shift into park i can feel the transmission go into park but the wheels dont lock the can will roll and the digital letters say its in reverse and i have to start it in netrual...what could be the problem. had my friend look at it and said it could be the transmission shifter cable but not sure.

 

Pop the shifter cable off the transmission and move it into park at the trans to see if the problem is the cable or the trans.

 

After you do that you can adjust the cable just like the old style detent cables. The other possibility is a problem at the column with the shifter itself
