Unhappy '02 'Burb: Knock sensor threading stuck. Workaround?

Hello!

I have posted a few threads about my new-to-me Suburban's ongoing repairs, and one of the things I finally took it in for was its knock sensors. I knew these were bad when I bought it, but not how bad.

Unfortunately, one of them basically crumbled in the mechanic's hands (I have the remains) and all of the threading is still in there. They tried to machine it out, but couldn't.

I read on some other forums that this can be worked around (https://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.co...topic=142703.0) but I don't have the knowledge needed to explain this to my mechanic. What exactly would they be doing? Does anyone have a guide anywhere?

Unfortunately, I need to smog test the car, and until this is fixed, I can't... meaning it's a big paperweight right now.

Thank you for your help!
