Default 03 Tahoe brake issues

I have an 2003 Tahoe z71 that I took in for an oil change a few weeks ago and they warned me of significant rust on my brake lines. It would be a big job to fix, costing at least $4000 according to that service station, and a Chevrolet station gave a similar estimate. From what I understand, it’s necessary to address from a safety standpoint if I am to keep the vehicle.

The truck has about 115k miles, and is otherwise in pretty good condition according to the man at the service station. It’s previous owners must have garaged it, because the interior and exterior look practically brand new. For these reasons, and admittedly because of some emotional attachment, I want to keep the truck. However $4000+ is a lot of money to put into a 20 year old vehicle.

Im wondering if anyone could give some input on any major issues that are likely to arise in coming years. I hope if I get this fixed, the Tahoe will go for 200-300k miles, but if something pops up again, I’m putting thousands into a really old car. So I think it’s also a gamble.

thanks

Welcome from Florida. $4000 to replace the brake lines sounds too high to me. Take to some other shops and you will probably get a much better price.

I have 2000 that some or all were done prior to my buying it, I don't know what the price was but I'd agree that $4k is too much. Take a look, or have someone take a look, at the transmission cooler lines. I had to have mine replaced due to rust and was told that's not uncommon on these. It was just short of $600 for that.

My dad just had this done on a 2003 Yukon XL for about $700 including parts. Here's the full kit that's only $130..
