I spoke with that former tech friend yesterday. He was pretty certain that there would be no issues at all with plugging in the black box, and that the code, if generated, would go away after several startups of the vehicle. So I went ahead and did it. At first my new actuator didn't respond. So I shut the vehicle off and restarted it, let it run for a couple of minutes and then shut it off and restarted again. And for the last two days, all seems to be working just fine. The actuator is doing what it's supposed to be doing. I guess we'll see what happens but all good so far.

By "black box" do you mean the control module?

Control module... computer module... whatever it's called. When you open up the rear panel covering the auxiliary heating system, you'll see the two actuators and the computer module in between with two plugs plugged into it. Don't forget to use the new part number and not the part number from the old one so that you get the updated unit.

It's all in that technical bulletin. Have a look, part number listed there is what I orderd.

(Nice find for the part on Amazon. I didn't know they did those types of parts, much cheaper).

I was just confused from the TSB on which part number was which. Well I tried both a new control module and new actuator with no luck. The weird thing is with the new actuator in and the old control module, the actuator moves to the cold side and stays there. With the new control module and either actuator, it moves to the hot site and stays there....WTF? I'm close to just taking it in to the dealer. Ugh.

You're sure you got the updated control module, right? And you've played with the overhead controls as well as the rear controls to make it work? One more thing, you've had the truck running and then shut off at least three times since installing it? Other than that, I don't know. I'd be very interested in hearing what the dealership says.

Yup, I've done all of that, except I'd have to double check to make sure the control module I've got is the updated one.

I did find this info which I will try tonight.

1. Place the ignition switch to the OFF position.
2. Remove the HVAC/ECAS fuse for a minimum of 10 seconds.
3. Install the HVAC/ECAS fuse.
4. Start the vehicle.
5. Wait 40 seconds for the HVAC control module to self-calibrate.
