Default '04 Tahoe Door Chime & Speaker Problem

Only about 2 out of 10 times does the drivers door chime work when the key is in the steering lock and the engine is off and the door is opened. This also causes the drivers door speaker to not work. . . sort of meaning if you put your ear very close to it you can barely hear the chime. Adjusting the balance or loudness setting on the radio has no effect. Tried the other original key with the same result. Has anyone else had this problem or know where to start ? Thanks. *BW*

Default Only speaker that works is a dash speaker

Has anyone found a definite answer for this problem. I have put up with this for years and I want to get it fixed.

GM door speakers have been crap for years.
I've had bad door speakers in a '09 Malibu and my '11 Tahoe w/Bose. Modestly priced aftermarket speakers and a speaker mounting adaptor kit and sound will even be better.
