This afternoon was very overcast and rainy here in PA. My lights came on as I drove home. I had the wipers on. As I was driving the dash lights changed to the brighter setting as if I had headlights on during day. It later switched to the dimmer setting as in nighttime brightness. The dash lights never went off so my headlights must have been on the whole time. If the sensor detected enough light to make the above changes, why didn't the headlights go off.

Are the headlights tied into fact the wipers were on?

 

I am not Mr. ZX, but I think if you have the headlights in Auto mode, they will come on if it is very overcast. It's been raining here for several days now (Chicago area) and everytime I go out, they don't automatically go on, even if it's pouring rain unless it is somewhat darkish. I know when I pull into my garage the auto turns them on. Just my $.02.

 

I have my headlights on auto and when the wipers are on auto the lights will turn on if the wipers go 8 times in a certain amount of minutes.

When Rainsense™ is active, the headlamps will turn on automatically if the exterior lamp control is in the AUTO position and the wipers are active.
