07 Suburban Lift Gate

07 Suburban Lift Gate
I have a 2007 Suburban with a power lift gate. Last night when opening the gate, the motor made a snapping noise. Sounded like a piece of plactic breaking behind the trim panel where the motor is located. The gate opens but when it gets to the top where it should stop, the motor continues to run pushing the door higher. The safety then trips and the gate falls closed. Any ideas? It will be going to the dealer sometime this week for a transmission problem and hopefully they will cover it under the extended warranty. My email is dickie1602@yahoo.com if anybody knows what the problem might be.

Sounds like something that forms a limit switch stop broke off. Should be covered under extended warranty, especially if it's a GMPP.
