As said above, tray is already there. When I installed mine I ran both power and ground parallel with the existing battery to have it connected at all times. Some people choose to connect a relay (heavy duty one) to have the battery part of the system when the ignition is on only, its really up to the owner.
Excusemy lack ofexpertiseon this subjectbut what good will a second battery do? I know the tray is there but I have no ideawhat the benefit of adding a second batterywould be.....
Better power source, especially if you have extra accessories such as lighting, tvs, or sounds systems. Helps from draining your battery, as long as your accessories dont overwhelm the two batteries you should be fine cause then you would take into account if the alternatorhas enough emperage tocharge the batteries enough.
My daughter likes to sit in my truck in the evenings while chatting on the phone and listens to the XM, a couple of times I have come out the next morning and get a warning that I need to check the battery and or charging system.... I know there is nothign wrong with the system its the hour(s) she has the radio on..
From time to time while at one of the kids practices one of the kids that is not participating wants to sit in the truck and watch a video....
When we go camping or to the coast we like to listen to the radio for extended periods of time (engine off), and the new GMT900 trucks have so many modules that require power that the battery has little reserve for extended play time without the engine running.
I havent added the second battery yet but am considering it.

you are correct about the modules. Im sure there are sensors that meter the voltage and even though it may be enough for the car to start, the sensors or modules probably see that it may be weak. If the battery is weak the airbag light will go on (2007 and above models), but if you let it chatge then turn off and on again it will go away. I would add the extra battery with a high amp relay, so like this the battery cuts on when you want to start, and is not used when in accessory mode.
