'08 Tahoe; stuck in 4 HI
I was driving through a field in 4 HI, came out stopped on dry pavement and turned the electronic switch back to "Auto." The dash indicated "Service 4 Wheel Drive," and the switch still indicates 4 HI.
Any suggestions on how to reset the 4WD or to get the switch to flip back to 2WD or Auto?
Thx,
CB

Welcome to the forum.
Assuming you have already followed the instructions in the owner's manual for shifting in and out of 4WD, have you tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes?

could be your vacuum modulator. I'm assuming that a tahoes 4wd system is the same as my jimmys 4wd. I've had this happen before, first my vacuum mod when out, that was a simple fix. I'm not sure where it is on a tahoe but on my jimmy it was under my battery try. It should move in or out when you press 4wd or 2wd. The second time it was the little shifter motor on the transfer case. Get under your truck and have someone press 2wd. You should hear a buzzing noise comeing from your transfer case. If you hear grinding it needs to be replaced. If you hear nothing first check your fuse, then your vacuum modulator. If both of those are good most likely your shift motor (i believe its called an encoder motor) is bad. Its an easy fix.
