09 Tahoe Charging Problem
Hey All,
I will try and keep this short. Back in late 2016 and into earlier this year I had serious light and headlight flickering which I posted about in a thread here at that time, well that issue mysteriously disappeared and hasn't come back since. Now since then the Service Battery Charging System light would come on every now and then, maybe once a month, usually it would come on within 10 minutes of driving and then go away, I had it checked at a couple different places one being the dealer and both said that everything is working fine. On Wednesday, while driving down the freeway the message came on again and within a few minutes the abs and stabiltrak lights also came on and the radio shut down, after pulling off into a parking lot and shutting it down it would not restart, had it jumped and took it again to an AutoZone and they checked it and said everything works correctly. I drove home, about 20 miles, without issues, the next day it started a bit hesitantly and after a few minutes the warning came back on, so today I let it run in my driveway for about 5-10 minutes and slowly it started dying.
Does anyone know what could be going on here? The battery is less than two years old and 4 different places have said that the alternator is charging fine. I have checked the connections at the battery and alternator and everything is tight and pretty clean. One thing I did notice is that the rubber boot that covers the connector to the alternator was not covering it completely and it was touching whatever wiring passes behind it, which is wrapped in tape. Could that have caused a short?
Please help, this is driving me crazy!
