Default 1985 Chevy Suburban carburetor choice

I have an 85 burb (hunting vehicle) it has a 350. It has the original carburetor on it and it's looking pretty rough. I would like to upgrade the carb when i replace it. Problem is i only know enough to be dangerous when it comes to carburetors; cfm's, 2 vs. 4 barrel, choke, secondaries, jetting, etc.

I would like to improve gas mileage and increase low end power (if that's possible) any suggestions? The rest of the engine is pretty much stock.

Whats on it now? Consider a rebuild?

Welcome to the forum.

If it's the original, probably a Quadrajet and in spite of what you may have heard, a correctly rebuilt and adjusted Q-jet is a very good carb. If you don't feel up to doing a rebuild yourself, there are folks out there that will do it. Here's one.

Was my guess since it's on a suburban. Look at the carb body, can you get the numbers? It will be a 170XXXXXX, I can track it from there. I prefer a quad over Edlebrock, Holley ect.

It is a QJet. I'll have to look at the numbers tonight. It sounds like rebuilding what i have might be the best bet.

So do i actually send the carb to cliffs and he rebuilds and sends back?
