Tahoe & Suburban The power, space, and brutal towing ability make the Tahoe and its longer sibling, the Suburban, arguably the best full size SUV's on the market today.

Default 1997 Chevy Suburban k1500 Just purchased

I had an 02 Suburban but a tire blew out & it was totaled out. So I was going to work yesterday & it was 20 miles/35min. from my house. When I made a right turn on to the Jobsite & the rear passenger wheel locked up for 5ft it felt like. Im not even sure if it was a full lock up but I felt & heard a tire being pulled. There was even a mark on the Street for the 5ft but it had some tire tread mark visibly left behind not a full stop drag. Now I was worried to take the highway home so I took streets (didn't want a lockup doing 55/60mph). Then when I got home I noticed a small leak under the front Drive axle case which wasn't there when I bought the Suburban took a whole day checking it out before buying.(driving it, putting cardboard under & just generally looking for issues) I do have a rear driver side shock absorber that is completely blown out & will be replacing this week but any advice would be really helpful before going to a mechanic. & want to know if it's still safe to drive temporarily. I just got a house & will be moving in July 1st & don't have much of a savings left over. I have had NO issues with the rear tire again but the leak also worries me. Thank you

This case that connects to Cv axles was right above the leak spot on the gound this morning. The leak could have came from above it since it looked a little wet/moist above it on the belt driven pump or whatever is connected to the belt right above the Axle case.

Is it gear oil or another fluid. Smell will tell if it's gear oil.
Check the diff's fluid level. The fill plug is right there in the picture. If the side seal is leaking keeping oil in the diff. will get you by for a while.
