Last night on my way home I noticed a sort of clicking noise. A few minutes later right after I turned off the highway I lost all mechanical power, but still had electrical. After that it didn't want to start without revving and would die as soon as there was no gas being applied. I'm looking for any suggestion as to where and what the problem might be.

Thanks,
Jonathan.

Sounds like you may have had a belt failure.
Have you checked it ?
What is your volt meter reading at about 1500 RPM ?

Serpentine belt seems fine. I just tried starting it to check the voltage and with a little coxing it did start. It ran extremely rough, but at idle the voltage was slightly above 14. The radiator does have a small leak and it appears the previous owner was running water through it instead of coolant. There is also a power steering leak somewhere too. I'm not sure if either of those are relevant.

I was able to get it to crank and it kept running on its own today. The voltage seemed fine I popped the hood and the serpentine belt was running as fast as it should be. Not sure if that's just because it was running so rough or has to do with the problem.

Ok, but what about the clicking noise, has that gone away ?
And now, it's hard to crank and running roughly.
When was your last tuneup, plugs, wires, injectors ?
Are you going to replace the coolant ?
You know exactly what the leak in your PS is coming from ?
In your spare time, you should go through ALL the grounds.
Take um apart, wire brush and replace snugly.

The clicking is still there, it seems to be coming from the engine bay somewhere on the drivers side.

Yes running very roughly. I did manage to start it up and take it out to see how it drove. It struggled to start up once again but did with help with the gas pedal. There was a large amount of while smoke from the exhaust when I cranked it. It wasn't rough above about 1200rpm while driving, but did seem sluggish or hesitant to speed up. It died on me as I was pulling back in to a parking spot.

I was hoping to get under the hood today and try and figure out what going on, but the Yukon had other plans apparently something caused the battery to drain. Its hooked up on a trickle charger now so I can try again tomorrow.
