2000 suburban brake lights & cruise issues
I have a 2000 Chevy Suburban 2500 4wd 6.0l that has me stumped. Both issues started at the same time so I think have to be related. The rear brake lights have been coming on and off at night, intermittently with no pattern, when the truck is off and no one in it. I inspected and manipulated the brake switch when it occurred - that had no effect on it. Also, the cruise control has been kicking off while in use. What's especially odd, is that it is some what temp sensitive. The cooler it is, the cruise will not even set or if it does, will operate for only a short duration before disengaging. The hotter it is, it acts normally or may only disengage once on a 100 mi trip. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Welcome to the forum...
They are most like related, the cruise control will not work if it thinks the brakes are being applied....
Sounds like you need to replace the brake switch located at the top of the brake pedal...
You could try removing it and cleaning it up and making sure it secure and tight in its mount first, but I highly suspect its the problem...

Well, I replaced the brake switch and unfortunately it did not solve the issues that I'm experiencing. Still really appreciate the suggestion and I honestly thought that would correct it. Hopefully someone has seen/experienced the same problems and is able to give me some insight/direction. Man, I hate electrical problems!!
Well, it looks like I found the culprit: the trailer brake controller. After changing the wording on a search, found a guy who had the same problems on his other manufacturer (can't say it on a CHEVY forum) truck. Anyways, one of the responses said it was probably the brake controller, which it was. While mine was acting up, I disconnected it and haven't had an issue for the last 4 days. Keep this in mind for future reference. Thanks!
Glad you got it resolved and thanks for follow up with the fix, its what makes the forums work... its fine to mention other manufactures as some issues much like you found can span all makes...
