2000 Tahoe transmission

2000 Tahoe transmission
Recently my transmission went out on my 2000 Tahoe 4x4 with the 5.3. My plan is to put a low mile used back in. I know it's the 4L60E.
Here's the question I need help with.
Various parts interchanges have told me that I can only use transmissions from 2000 model Tahoe/Yukon and 99-00 Silverado/Sierra.
Is that really the case? And if so...why? What make them different on the other years?
