Default 2000 Tahoe z71 5.7

I have a 2000 Tahoe with the 5.7 in it. I am having an issue with the battery light coming on. I have tested and replaced the battery. I have had the alternator tested twice and told it was good both times. Its been tested on and off the truck. I got new cables but the ones on the truck and the oe replacements are not the same. I also have a fusible link by the battery mounted next the fan shroud. It has 3 wires that run from it. One to the alternator, one to the fuse box and one to the battery. I have not lost any drivability but it is nerve racking waiting for the truck to cut off while driving. I also hear a grinding noise while the light first comes on. Some days it comes on and goes off, other days it comes on and stays on for a while. I do smell oil or something similar from time to time while the light is on as well. Im concerned that it might be something else other than the battery or alternator but no clue. Any tips where I can go after having things changed out and tested?? I just need an idea where to go from my current point.
