Gus, I have a 2002 Tahoe with the 5.3L engine. According to my owners manual for here in the States, the preferred oil for "BELOW -18C to 38C is SAE 5W-30. For -18C to 38C is SAE 10W - 30. I don't know what certification oil is available in the UK. I have been using Mobil1 Synthetic SAE 10W-30 in my Tahoe since it had 12000 KM on it. I do not have to add any oil between changes and it seems to run pretty good.
