Default 2003 Tahoe Z71 - ABS Shut Down Issue

I have an '03 Tahoe Z71 with 31K miles on it. Recently when driving the Tahoe, I will receive an error message that states " Check Brake System", the "ABS" light will come on and the "Check Engine" light comes on and the whole car completely shuts down. The scary part of about this situation is the whole car becomes inoperable - no power brakes, no power steering. The problem is occurrs intermittently and has started to occur more frequently. The local dealership in Richmond Va (Royal Chevrolet) ran a diagnostic on it and couldn't find anything wrong. I have seen some posts on other sites with people having the exact same problem, but no resolutions.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Tahoe forum. When the dealer checked it, they didn't find any codes? I thought the "Check Engine" lite always meant there was at least one code.

Vik,
The power steering pump also supplies power assist for the brake system (Hydro-boost).
If the power steering pump is faulty or the fluid is low or the belt slips it can cause the problems that you describe.
Some technicians rely solely on the computer diagnostics to troubleshoot problems but many issues still cannot be found using this modern method.

I would first inspect the belt for any sign of slippage and replace it along with the tensioner if you see signs of a slipping belt (not likely with only 31k miles).

You may also want to drain and flush the power-steering fluid but refill with Valvoline Syn Power fluid: http://www.valvoline.com/pages/produ...asp?product=22

If these items don't resolve the problem then you will need to replace the power steering pump.
