2004 Suburban LT
Hello,
I am new to the forum and also the owner of a new to my 2004 Suburban LT. I have a couple questions on 2 problems I am having with the SUV that I was hoping to get some insight on.
1. Service airbag is on the DIC and the airbag light blinks 7 times and then stays on. At the same time the passenger airbag light in the rear view mirror functions as it should, off when nobody is sitting on it and on when I have a passenger. I have ordered a scan tool from autel that should diagnose the codes from the SRS module and will have that tomorrow. I am hoping that will show me something easy such as a sensor in the front that is bad. However, I am trying to do my homework ahead of time and was hoping to find out if there is a common problem or a couple common problems for that year / system that I should consider.
2. When the interior lights are on and the engine at an idle I get a fluctuation in all the interior lighting and the display light for the LCD view point on the shifter is always very dim. I was told the alternator is fairly new (it looks it) and the battery also looks very new. I am assuming this might be a bad or lose ground and was planning to do the following, test the battery with car on and off (assuming I should have 12.5v off and at least 13.5 on) and check the major ground cables for corrosion or being loose. Is there anything else that is common to this type of problem and / or any other areas I should look at?
I am not a mechanic but a very capable DIY type of person and also have a chiltons service manual for the suburban. I have worked on many cars to replace exhaust systems, full brakes, troubleshoot and repair DTC codes etc so I have hopes this particular task is not out of my abilities. Any advice you all have would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance for the help.

So I bought the scan tool and it gave me a front side drivers deployment loop failure (think B0041). Traced the in seat airbag back to the connector and found the open and fixed it. Now I have no airbag light on .... ya!
Also replaced the e-brake adjustment cable so that is another one off the list to fix so I can pass inspection. On a roll ........

If your gear indicator is dim then this is almost certainly a dry solder joint in the instrument panel. Search on the same forum on the younger posts -just sent instructions on how to address this issue. If you can hold a soldering iron steady then you can repair thus yourself. Instructions include youtube link.
