I have a 2005 Suburban and am interested in replacing the engine. The current engine is a Z. How do I tell or can someone tell me what year engines can be used? What do I have to change to put in the bigger engine?

 

You might be able to jam a 6.0 liter U motor in it, but you'll likely need to put a stronger transmission in your vehicle as well. Probably many other things as well.

 

Don't put in any other engine than a Z. You will have nothing but trouble otherwise. The engine computer and fuel system is designed for flex fuel use. If you try using any other engine you will be plagued with driveability issues and check engine light. As far as what year engine to use, a good junkyard will be able to determine that. My 2 cents.

 

did not see this until today, bought a T engine, the salvage yard said they are interchangeable. Now you are making me nervous!
