My 2005 Suburban is having trouble turning on, I turn the key to crank it and it cranks for about a good 5 seconds, and then stalls right when its about to turn on, I crank it again right after that and it starts like normal, it often does it during an hour period or more that its off, I have no idea what it could be, now I'm stuck turning on my suburban twice before I can drive it, could it be the fuel punp? Anybody have any ideas?? Thanks

A check of the fuel pressure would be a good idea. Check w/ the key on in Run position and engine off, then w/ engine running, and finally w/ key off. Believe it should be in the 50-65 psi range.

When you say "it stalls", are you saying that the engine quits turning over even w/ the key in the Start position?

 

How do i check the fuel pressure?? and yeah like right it sounds like its gonna turn on and then the engine stops turning with the key on "on" like it cranks on its own you just turn it a bit and it stops cranking when the engine is on, but it cranks for a really long time about 5 seconds today =/

 

You need a fuel pressure gauge. Harbor Freight, Sears, and others carry them.

 

The gauge should also show the system holding pressure even after the engine/ignition is turned off, it should NOT bleed down quickly, if it does the fuel pump is probably your problem.

Be sure to turn the engine off before removing the pressure gauge and if your gauge has a pressure relief use it before disconnecting! if you don't it can and will spray fuel in all directions...( so I have heard, as I would not be so impatient to have learned this on my own ) okay maybe I did....

 

I am having the same issue with my 02 suburban. Was your problem the fuel pump or something else. I read on a mother site the it could be the crankshaft positioning sensor. Let me know what worked for you.
