Default 2005 Tahoe 2x4 Z71 ?

I just purchased a 2 wheel drive z71. I didn't know they maid such an animal. I looked it up and have found that the 2 wheel drive is an option for the z71 package. Does anyone have any info on what the package consists of and if it is rare or not? Is there anyway to find production numbers? It is loaded with just about everything except the nav system? I guess the NAV was available in '05?

Thanks in advance!

Danzigman,

The Z71 package includes 46-mm gas-charged shock absorbers, off-road jounce bumpers, specific stabilizer bars, a skid-plate package, a high-capacity air cleaner and distinctive Z71 decals for the pickup box. My information shows that the Z71 package came on the four wheel drive models. It does not state that it came on the two wheel drive models.

Thank you,

Elizabeth, Chevrolet Customer Service

I know they made them, they have a emblem without the 4x4 on it and I find forum posts where people were complaining back in '05 that they made a 2x4 version. They all said it shouldn't be labeled Z71 if is wasn't 4x4. I would like to know if they still have the Z71 performance options minus the 4x4 or if it is just an appearance package. Where should the skid plates be? Oil pan, trans and rearend? What would the high-capacity air cleaner look like since these just have the air box?

it used to be 4x4 only but now you can get it 2wd. my friend got a 2010 truck and he was also surprised to see 2wd Z71s out there. I guess they have just about all the same options other than actual 4wd.
look under the truck you will see skid plates under the engine covering all that you listed. I do not think there is 1 for the rear end though.
the air cleaner wont look any different, just a little bit bigger if you compared to another 2005.
