Default 2007 Chevy LTZ oil consumption and white smoke on startup

In my 2007 suburban with 113,000, I recently had the rear main oil seal replaced due to an oil leak and the throttle body replaced due to idling issues. Now I'm noticing that I'm burning 2 quarts of oil every 500 miles and I have white smoke upon startup and then it stops. What's causing this? I'm about tired of this truck and for the first time in my life thinking of leaving Chevy due to all the problems I continue to have with Chevy vehicles.

From what I read, its an issue with the motor switching between running on 4 & 8 cylinders. My 2007 suburban has 142K on it and I'm burning a quart every 500-1000 miles when on the highway. I've heard replacing pistons and rings is the answer, but I haven't confirmed that. I'm hoping to hear from someone who has done this repair and how much it costs.

Default white smoke

white smoke usually means you're burning coolant... as in head gasket.

does it smell sweet?

Are you having to add coolant to the tank?
