Default 2007 Suburban Air Conditioner is not cold enough

Good Afternoon All

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this. Thank you in advance.

I have a 2007 Suburban LT with 175k.

One thing to note: my heater coil is leaking. I can smell it in the winter and the heat only gets warm as I drive so I know that is a problem. (This might point to the evaporator)

The a/c isn't blowing cold enough air. I got one of those recharge cans from Advance Auto and the gauge on that while the car is running shows it has good pressure. 3 colors on the gauge, RED, GREEN and YELLOW. The needle is smack dab in the middle of green.

I observed the compressor going on and off so I changed the pressure switch. No change in symptoms.

If i turn the temperature up the air gets warmer and when i lower the temperature the air gets cooler but not COLD like freon is freezing it cold.

The temperature does not change with the speed of the car or higher RPM's of the engine.

Could this be a worn compressor? or a clogged bad evaporator.

Again thank you in advance

I'd try some Alumiseal for that heater leak. I've seen it work well on small seeps and leaks. As for your A/C, the only way to actually know what is going on is with a gauge set.

Thank you, I will check out Alumiseal, although since my heater core might be bad i might have to change that out. The (heat only when i drive) symptom is what im going off of.

As for the A/C, I agree these DIY gauges aren't meant for this type of diagnosis but I got lucky today, I decided to hook things back up and check everything again, lo and behold the compressor was going off and on. Aside from the pressure switch i read that this is a sign of low refrigerant. I took my DIY can, connected, charged and now my burb gets cold.

Thank you for everyone who read this, responded, and if it helps you awesome.

Mines is at 175k, its time to spend some quality time on here so I can get more out of this beauty.

Big mistake, trying to use some kit, and single gauge like that is pretty worthless. Sure hope the sealer in that can didn't do permanent damage.

Have a real shop evacuate, fill by weight, and add UV dye and check for leaks.

Glad to hear you got your AC cold again. Before I repaired the AC leak, I used to have to add a can of freon to our 89 Mustang every summer. I used one of those reusable gauge/hose set ups. A small seep would leak about 12 oz, or less, a year.
Once you know your vehicle you don't always have to take it to a shop.
In my instance, my new to me 06 Suburban, the shop wanted to charge over $600 to change the high side pressure transducer switch, connector pigtail, evac and recharge system w/2.8 lbs (dual AC).
Still cost me $45 for the diagnosis of erratic signal from the high pressure switch.
The real problem was corrosion at the pressure transducer connector in the high side line. Cleaned connection with CRC electronic cleaner and AC has been working great.
