Default 2007 Tahoe LT 4x4 issue

i just bought this 2007 Tahoe LT. i was driving on the hyway with the 4x4 auto mode engaged. truck started to loose power or get sluggish. didnt really concern me, then i hear a clunk and a grinding noise and the truck feels like the front drivers wheel brake is engaged and i pull over. take a look, see smoke and some nasty smells (like old oil/gear oil burning) i set the truck to 2wd and all is good to get home. this morning i take the truck out of the garage in 2wd mode, drives just fine, i engage auto 4wd and the truck does not move at all, feels like the brakes are engaged. i figure the front auto locking hubs are seized. i can not find any reference to auto locking hubs for this truck, i find references for hub berring assemblies but since it drives in 2wd i figure the wheels are turning just fine. has to do with the 4x4 engagment, could it be trransfer case / diff / or is there a loking mechanism for the hubs?

any ideas are appreciated.

thanks

Have you taken the vehicle in for an inspection for this issue? Did this start occurring recently? Did anything significant happen to the vehicle before this starting occurring?

I encourage you to take the vehicle in for an inspection. A certified technician will be able to offer a more accurate diagnosis with a physical inspection.

Please keep us posted.

i left it at the shop today to have it looked at.

i do have another question, if it drives fine in 2wd mode with no decernable draging feeling, will it cause more damage to the truck to continue driving until i can afford to repair it?
