Not sure why the admins are helping GM try to get away with this issue...I know you are getting paid for advertising, but if your forum is that 1 sided then you will loose your subscribers (and your advertising dollars).

Its sufficient to say this is a known defect. There are 195,000 views of this thread alone, and thousands others like it (google GM cracked dash, you will be 100 years old before you finish reading all the documented cases).

I just spoke with my service manager today at Carl Black GMC. He confirmed that the issue is widespread. So did Jim Ellis Chevrolet. So did Master Cheverolet in Augusta. I would be surprised if ANY service manager hasnt been overwhelmed with this issue, unless he has been there less than 1 day...

Hey Guys, just signed up to this forum because I hear GM might actually be watching this thread and since I CANNOT seem to get through to them any other way I will go this route...

Dear GM,
I have always driven import and/or luxury cars. I have many friends who are fans of GM & Chevy who speak very highly of your brand. When I was in the market for an SUV I figured I would stray from the norm and try out a nice GMC/Chevy product. So I picked up a 2007 GMC Yukon XL AND THEN THE PROBLEMS BEGAN.

Firstly, the car had well under 100k miles and it was burning through an ENTIRE engine full of oil on a 500 mile road trip. Really? The dealership pushed through the issue under my "powertrain warranty" and added an official GM "fix" known as a deflector plate to better help move the oil around. It sounded to me like they put a band-aid on a bullet wound. LUCKILY, my local dealership (John L. Sullivan in Roseville, CA) actually pushed through an engine rebuild (the proper thing to do) and re-built all the valves/pistons/rings/seals e.t.c. Thankfully that seems to have fixed the problem. I was a nice happy GM owner, until my dash started to crack all over the place!

The first crack was in the upper left corner of the passenger airbag. After doing a quick google search it was painfully obvious this is a HUGE GLARING DEFECT THAT EFFECTS THOUSANDS OF OWNERS.

I did what was recommended and called the national 800 GM customer hotline. She "noted" my concerns and said someone would be in touch with me shortly after I took it to the dealer to get inspected. Upon taking my car into the dealership the manager instantly noted the passenger airbag crack and then also said "Yup, looks like the other common crack is starting too right above your gauges". Sure enough, he was right. The crack was only about half-inch long but has since grown to an eye-sore'ing 7+ inches.

Of course the response from you guys was, "Sorry, your vehicle is too old. We can't even split the repair cost, which oh by the way would be ~$800".

This is absolutely ridicilous. Is this seriously the way you stand behind your product ? Out of warranty is one thing, but a KNOWN & COMMON defect is something different all together. The AMERICAN TAX PAYERS bailed your company out in one of the worst economic down-turns we have ever seen and THIS is how we get re-payed? Covering up a known defect / design flaw in your product?? You can even see in the newly re-designed version of the dash they have added extra reinforcement to the exact spots that crack!! At least give us an option to fix the dash for $100 or something (at least that would weed out all the people who don't care about their cracked dash). We're not asking for a "hand-out", instead, just do the right thing!

I expected better and needless to say unless this issue gets resolved then this will be the last GM product I EVER buy (and I normally change cars once per year).

Sincerely,
Justin

I'm not shilling for GM, just stating a fact.

You are stating 1 fact : your service manager said he hasnt seen any

and 1 opinion.

How would you know if the failure affects less than 1% of the trucks on the road? How would 1 even come to that as a logical conclusion ? We on the 104th page of this topic, on this forum alone.

This 1 topic has probably boosted your sites overall traffic considerably, Ive told everyone I know to join and post here. Dont fend for GM. They already got away with 10 billion in our tax money. We need to ensure they fix this issue, this is the only way it will get done.

Refuse to buy another GM product until they resolve this KNOWN DEFECT.

I would bet you are correct about the part in red, and incorrect about the part in blue.

The guy is a newbie and does not realize this forum allows Ford advertizing among others which has nothing to do with GM. I also doubt you are somehow profiting by making excuses for GM. For that matter, you might not even own the forum, and just administer it(i.e. no financial gain).

As to you claiming that your earlier speculation is fact, those two things do not go hand in hand.
I believe you are wrong, but my speculation as to how many dashes are cracked compared with the total number of 2007 and above SUV/trucks is not fact either.

I doubt there is anyway of ever knowing how many dashes are cracked, even if GM was keeping track of the number of complaints. When I brought in one of my SUV's the dealer dismissed me without ever even documenting the complaint with a service order. The only way they would have is by charging me for a mechanic to inspect it. We both know that would have been a waste of time and money. So all three of my cracked dashes are undocumented. I suspect most are in my boat as well.

Like I suggested to you, take a couple of hours and go to the used car lots with GM trucks and SUV's on them and see for yourself.

Did not state the 1% as a fact. Said "I'll bet". If you have data to the contrary, please share it with us.

My dealer is Cable-Dahmer.

FWIW, I don't fault GM for taking the government bailout, I fault the Bush & Obama administrations for not letting them go thru a normal bankruptcy.
