Thanks for the follow up picture post

Do you use any cleaners or treatments on your dash, Armorall or anything else?

It gets Armor-all every few weeks. I can't imagine the surface protectant having anything to do with the cracks. What I've seen is that the plastic attachment points within the dash are breaking down and crumbling. This caused my dash to begin moving and fatigue in the cracked areas. The dashes have a paint or plastic coating and you can see the crack beginning under this material before it tears and exposes the cracked plastic. I was finding chunks of plastic in my floor board for months before I realized that it was the dash attachment points. One piece had the metal retaining clip attached.

I agree, just curious I don't use anything on my 07 other a damp cloth. My concern on the protectant is it can get under that paint in small scratches and cause it to peel ir blister...

If you try to get this replaced by GM, don't even whisper Armor-All. They'll never help you out if they know cuz that stuff is poison. Only thing I've found that it's good for is to detail the wheel house liners. in2pro has the right idea.

So I just got a call back from GM and they declined to repair our dash because we bought the vehicle used. The rep explained to me that this doesnt seem to be a large issue. It seems a bit odd to me there are 43 pages of comments on this forum, and on facebook and on youtube showing the problem. It was assured to me that these cracks would not pose any safety issues at this time. When I asked if I could get a letter from GM stating that these cracks would not pose an issue to the airbag system, this was also declined. Lucky for me she did say we would be notified in the event of a recall in the future. What a joke.

Any advice?

Default 07 Suburban dashboard cracks

GM replaced my 07 Suburban (out of warranty) cracked dashboard covering 100% of the costs.

- 2007 Suburban with crack over steering wheel hump and at corner of passenger airbag.
- Cracks appeared at 45k miles. Vehicle not under warranty
- Vehicle bought used at 35k miles from a used car dealer (not GM)

Here is how I didn't pay a dime. I first called GM customer service and started a claim number. I explained the cracks, and of course they downplayed it to make it sound very rare...whatever. They then referred me to Hall Chevrolet in Chesapeake, VA. I took it in and they looked at it and talked to GM customer support. I received a call back stating that they would NOT cover the crack. At this point I only had the crack over the steering wheel. After 2 months another crack developed at the airbag. I then took the truck back to the dealership and stated my concearn that in an accident the airbag may not deploy correctly, and that this is a safety issue. The next day I received a call back stating they would cover the whole expense.

The key to GM covering this is the airbag crack. If you mention that this is a potentially harmful KNOWN FACTORY DEFECT you will likely have success as I did. Good luck.

Default Crack dash, passanger mirror problems, 3rd row back seat problems, and crome problems

I bought my used 2007 tahoe ltz three months ago. On January 4, 2012 I was dusting off my dash and seen two cracks. One 7 inch crack on driver side from windshield to the hump where steering wheel is and the other in left hand corner of passanger side airbag. This is one now of several problems I am facing with my tahoe. The crome on handles is coming off and had to put tape around one so that it wouldn't come all the way off and wouldn't cut anyone's hands, my passanger mirror when you put the tahoe in reverse it goes down then when you put in drive it's suppose to come back up and doesn't, my third row seating when you lay both seats down and then pull them back up one latches the other doesn't so you have to latch it by the handle that puts it down, I had a plastic piece on my second row seating to pop out under the seat (but had ended up having someone fix it today), and now my dashboard is cracking. I went to a body shop to see what it would cost to fix the dash they told me to replace it that it would cost anywhere between 1400.00 and 1600.00 to fix. I told the body shop there were alot of issues addressed on the internet about the dashboard he told me maybe I should see if a recall has been issued on it and GM would then pay for it. Got home and researched it no recall but so many people with the same problem so I decide to call GM myself. I told the lady about my problem and what the cost would be to fix it. I felt GM should pay for their mistake in making a quality issue product. She asked me if I was having any other problems. I told her that next wk I was going to be taking the tahoe in to have the passanger mirror fixed cause I bought an extended warranty that is suppose to cover it but won't my other problems. She asked of any other problems and I failed to mention the crome handles and the 3rd row seating cause I was so upset about the dash. She told me I would have to let the dealership look at the cracks when they fix the mirror to diagnose the problem then she would call me back on Thursday to find out what they said and go from there. She told me there was no guarantee that they would pay to fix it. I told her I had all the complaints offline printed out and that there are hundreds of people having this problem with the dashboard and come to find out having problems with alot of the same other issues I am. I had another GM car before my tahoe that I bought that was an 09 model and bought extended warranty. Good thing I did in a year and a half that I owned that car I had 6 repairs done on it that would have costed me 4000.00 if I didn't purchase the extended warranty. I have owned GM since I was 16 yrs old and the newer the cars get the worse they make them. I also own a another GM car that has issues also. If GM can't fix the problems I am having with this Tahoe I will NEVER own another GM car again. If any of you customer service reps on here can help me here is my email address just_me7575@yahoo.com I feel that this tahoe should have loads of recalls on it with all the common problems people are having. Its sad a billion or more dollar company can't own up to their inability to make a quality vehicle and fix their mistakes at their cost not the customers.

We bought our 2007 LTZ Tahoe in 2009 and noticed a small crack by the airbag. We thought it was normal and it was very small. About 3 months ago, I noticed the crack on the driver's side above the steering wheel on the left side. I have no idea how long it had been there! I have been looking for fixes for it, never thought about looking for a forum like this. I am calling GM and my Chevy dealer tomorrow. My family buys all our vehicles from our Chevy dealer... I'm hoping they will just make me pay the 200.00, but I doubt it. I may just have to trade it in for Toyota!

I recently got with GM they came up with me paying 300.00 of the total cost and they would pay for the rest.. The reason they gave me for having to pay at least 300.00 of it was cause I was the second owner. I am still going back and forth with them cause I feel it shouldn't matter if I was first or second owner the cracks are issues with their poor quality and I feel the crack near my airbag is safety issue cause its causing my cover over the air bag to raise up. I feel that if I hit a bump that it may come out due to not having the cover over it securely due to the crack or whose to say it will work in an accident. So as of right now I am having to pay 300.00 but they are suppose to get back with me this wk to see if they can do better. Good luck with them they give everyone the same story that not that many people call about the cracks in the dash issue and if you look on here several have called them.
