Anyone give an actual comparison of the ride quality of stock 20's vs. aftermarket 22's?? I do not want a stiff ride...I had an '02 that I switched the stock 17's to 20's and did a 2/3 drop and it rode like a skateboard. I have the go ahead to do 20's (use stock tires) or go with 22's...wife said as long as they are 'shiny'...hehehe, but neither of us want a bad ride (the days of doing something that looks good at the sacrifice of comfort are behind us). I know the sidewall will be less on the 22's so ride quality has to suffer a little......also, no plans of messing with suspension at all...if it matters, I have an LTZ with autoride.

 

I have an 07 LTZ with autoride. I did a 2/3 drop on mine and have 305/22 on it. The ride is rougher then stock but not bad at all.

To give a good comparison, i also had a 2002 tahoe with 20" and 2/3" drop. That crap bucket rode like a skateboard too!

The 07 seems to be a better ride.

Thanks...if I am not planning on doing any drop, which would look better, new stock wheels on 20's or 22's (i.e. which would fill up more of the wheel well)?

Second, any noticeable fuel usage increase when you went to 22's? I would assume so since the tires are wider (more air resistance) and weigh more (I would think significantly).

Lastly, is there a 1/2" drop available or anyway to drop the rear end just about an inch (WITHOUT adversely affecting ride)? Thanks!

 

As long as you keep the same diameter, then you should be ok.. If you decide to get bigger tires or wheel then you while sacrifice MPG and you speedometer will be off. Correct me if I am wrong. Of course the bigger the wheel the more you will fill up the area, more chance of rubbing as well. good luck.

 

I agree with everything you said, but 22" wheels don't necessarily take up more wheel well as the tires have lower profile..anyway, I saw a number of Tahoes driving around today, a couple with 22" and I actually prefer look of 20" so decision is made, just got to make time to them put on....won't affect ride quality, no chance of rubbing, little or no impact on MPG and of course, much less expensive than making switch to 22" with new tires.
