2007 Tahoe Spider Gears
I recently discovered, thanks to this forums help, that my spider gears are chipped. Thank you for that. I have a new set of gears and will be doing the job soon. Before I start I'm trying to find the torque spec for the bolt that holds the spider cross in place, does anyone know that? Also could this be the clunk from drive to reverse that sounds like coming from diff? Thank you!

The manual I have says the Pinion Shaft Lock Bolt torque is 27 ft lbs.
These are mechanical lockup differentials and tend to be noisy. The clunk could be that. It could be your spider gears and retainer are worn as well. Also, where the yoke enters the end of the transmission can cause noise. Bad u-joints also.
I did all new races and bearings in my many years ago. The ring and pinion specs and grease markings were all perfect. Still clunks in the diff.
