2008 Suburban Misfire cylinder 1. Oil on plug.
Hi All-
Hoping to get some help getting my suburban running again. It is the 5.3l LS 1500. Unsure when the last tune up was, i haven't owned it very long.
I have a Misfire code for cylinder 1. Its running rough and i have the Stablitrack and traction control warnings as well.
What i have done:
- swap plugs for 1 and 3 with no change
- swap plug wires for 1 and 3 with no change
- swap coil packs for 1 and 3 with no change
- swap injectors for 1 and 3 with no change.
where do i go from here?
the plug from cylinder 1 was very clean but also had oil on it, smelled of unburned fuel.
from what i have read the stabilitrack and traction control issues are caused by the misfire?? is that correct?

If you have done all that swapping and still have the misfire, you will need to check compression on cylinder #1
IF you have no compression , in all likelihood you have the AFM failure... you can also pull the valve cover and turn the engine over and check to see if the rocker arms are moving for #1, if they don't move or move very little you have a collapsed lifter and likely a damaged camshaft.
If you are going to replace the lifter I'd recommend doing them all as well as the cam, you MIGHT be able to keep the cam IF the lobe is not worn yet...

I have a 2007 Suburban 5.3L LT that developed a misfire on #7. My mechanic changed the coil but it didn't help. He then changed all the plugs and found 2 fouled, one on each bank. He checked the compression, etc. on all cylinders. Fast forward 2 weeks to the end: He's telling me the cam lobes are worn over cyl #7 and that I've probably got bad rings due to the oil fouling. He says the factory knows the 2007 has a bad engine and is selling a new one with a 100k, 3yr warranty. All because of a misfire. Anyone else been told the same?
