2008 Tahoe LTZ 5.3 AC compressor engages intermittently
Hello everyone,
I had a 2004 tahoe and later 2006 tahoe. Never any issues. Now I have a 2008 tahoe. She is give me nothing but issues.
now the AC.
the system was recharged last week. All of the sudden the compressor will engage and disengage randomly. When it will engage the air will blow every cold. That lasted for a couple of hours.
Now it won’t engage (the compressor button on the AC panel flashes and then it goes off)
I feel like I want to throw this truck off a Cliff.
BTW: I feel like the engine fans are constantly on. I just noticed that. I don’t know if it has anything to do with it.
thoughts ?

The fans should be on.
Next time the compressor disengages, leave the engine on and CAREFULLY tap on the AC compressor drive plate with a wooden broom handle or similar; if it engages then, likely the "air gap" has worn and possibly this could be fixed by simply removing a shim under the drive plate. I did just that (removed a shim) on my 1998 Frontier with over 200K miles with same symptoms back in 2019, still working great to this day.
Understand that many mechanics will try to sell you on a new AC compressor with clutch.
