Default 2009 Chevy Tahoe A/C issue ...

Hi

I turn on the A/C and everything works fine, air, indicators, etc, but no cold air at all.
Under-hood fuse is fine. When I watch the compressor, it will engage for about 5 seconds and then turn off for about 5 seconds. Engage ..... Off, and just continues on that on/off cycle, never staying on.
I could swear I hear a 'click' coming from the accumulator right before it turns off each cycle. Seems like it is trying. I have no idea what the symptoms of low Refrigerant/Freon are since believe it or not, I have never had one of my Tahoe's run low.
So, is it low Refrigerant/Freon or something else?

Thanks!

It could be low freon or too much freon. It's hard to diagnose without having gauge pressures to look at.

Now that winter is over, I revisited this issue. I bought a recharge can and attempted to recharge the system, but when I attached it, the gauge on the can showed that it was charged and well into the 'green', the high end actually. Any suggestions on what I should look at next?

Since you said it's charged well, maybe you can look into the refrigerant circuit. There may be a problem there that prevents it from flowing in the AC system. You can also check your AC compressor, it may not be engaging when you turn it on. You might have a fault in your compressor. But i'm just guessing here. In any case, i'd have a trusted technician take a look. Hope you get it fixed.
