Tahoe & Suburban The power, space, and brutal towing ability make the Tahoe and its longer sibling, the Suburban, arguably the best full size SUV's on the market today.

Default 2011 Chevy Suburban 2500

Howdy folks - relatively new to the forum but not new to 'machines'. Have a question about our 2011 Suburban 2500 - what would be considered normal oil pressure for our 6.0 liter engine? It has 162k miles - cruising hot it reads right around 30, which seems a bit low, and it will come up to 40 or so if the engine downshifts/revs up to pass etc, and at idle it's maybe around 15-20. No bad noises or such, just seems to read a bit 'lowish' when cruising hot.

The oil pressure in our 2001 Cherokee was reading so low it activated the [check gauges] light, and it was all better after I replaced the oil pressure sensor. I'm wondering if the 6.0 needs a new oil pressure sensor as well?

Would appreciate any thoughts.

Cheers,
- Sam

We have 2005 Yukon Denali with the 6.0 engine, 210K miles. It takes a few seconds for the oil pressure gauge to read in the mornings, then operates fine. Sometimes the dash warning states "oil pressure low" at start up. Anyway, we're still using 5W-30 full synthetic, and ASE mechanic said don't bother to change that oil sending unit. And it's quite hidden and working blind at rear driver side of the engine. Typically we see 15-20 psi at low rpm and 40 psi at driving.

Consider maybe trying a slightly higher viscosity oil, due to the mileage.
