Default 2011 GM Oil: Dexos.

http://editorial.autos.msn.com/blogs...75dfd69&_blg=5

http://www.gmdexos.com/aboutdexos.html

and the worrying part:

Using engine oils other than authentic dexos™ licensed products could result in damage that is not covered under warranty.

so much for 'any old 5w-30 will do'...

I wonder if Mobil 1 and other current makers will adopt the new standard? I would expect so if GM and others start to require it

Doesnt matter, its always the same thing. When the car is no longer under warranty you ll put whatever you want to. I dont know anyone who uses the orange Dex Cool anymore for a post-1996 GM car. They wind up getting whatever is on sale.

Interesting... I wonder if it means GM will be branding their own oil or it will be a "standard" that oil manufactures have to meet...

A quick read leads me to believe that GF-5 and dexos1 are the same. Every time the standard is upgraded most, if not all, oil companies meet it.

Just don't want to mix DexCool w/ ethylene glycol. I've heard it jells.

speaking of which I dont know anyone who uses 5w20 in NY. Most use 10w30 or 10w40 whatever is on sale. At $3/quart it is ALL the same in this climate.

I am starting to see a few more articles pop up about this...(Dexos1)
Seems the primary reason is to improve overall MPG...and before anyone blames GM for creating a new and expensive oil that has to be used, keep in mind that the government is creating the requirements not GM.
As I understand it M1 is also acceptable...

Default lol

way to dig up a year old thread.

Damn GumVent all up in my $hit...

$3.60 / gas will force us all to drive matchbox cars anyway, we don't need fancy oil to assist the process...

Changed the oil in the Tahoe this weekend, used Mobile 1. The label on both the 5 qt jug and the single quart shows in green lettering that it is "Dexos Approved"
