2012 Suburban having strange electrical issues
Hello-First time!
2012 Suburban 1500 w/100K miles. We just arrived home from a week long trip with lots of snow, rain and mud on the highways. While driving, the side blind spot system would occasionally show "unavaible" which isn't unusual considering the mud and such which stuck to the sides of the vehicle.
What became unusual is that occasionally when the "unavailable" alert would flash on digital dash readout, as it would switch back to whatever had been displayed, (fuel level, mileage, etc), the speedometer dial (analog needle) would drop from current speed momentarily and then bounce back up. It didn't happen every time the display showed "unavailable", just occasionally. The dial wouldn't lose illumination, just drop to slower speed and then right back up to current road speed. What was even more unusual was that if the cruise control was active-it would be disabled when the speedometer dial would drop.
Are these systems somehow connected? Does anyone have experience with an issue such as this and have a place to start trouble shooting? The blind spot system appears to be functioning as it would let me know when a car was in either blind spot.
Another electrical "issue": When using the vehicle to commute from Seattle to Portland for work, we would use a 750 inverter plugged into an accessory port (cigarette lighter) to supply 110v for laptop power supplies (our model doesn't have a 110v outlet). After several trips using this, the inverter would no longer be able to provide enough current (it has an "overload" indicator that tells you when the device you are powering is drawing more current than it can provide) and now if we try to use all 4 accessory ports to charge personal devices (iPhone, iPad, CD player, etc) charging of these devices appears to take quite a bit longer than in the past. It's as-if the accessory circuit has some current limiting on it now. Is there something in the circuit that could be damaged causing limited current? Or is it a simple circuit only having a fuse in line?
And just one more issue!! The transfer case selector **** (round one next to headlight selector lower left dash by drivers door) appears to be quite warm when operating the vehicle. I've not noticed it before. A search online revealed this is could be normal-is that indeed the case? Or is this indicative of a problem downstream of the **** where something may be drawing more current than normal? The know appears to function properly and shift transfer case to selected modes.
Thanks,
Brian K
