You are in luck. The 2014 got the Gen 5 engine which is a major improvement from the Gen 4 in terms of getting rid of the pesky AFM problem. Make sure you use Dexos rated oil. Don’t let any of the high Visser guys convince you to run 40 weight oil. The engine should make 200,000 miles without any problems and I’ll bet we’ll see guys telling us about 300,000 miles. Just takes a few more years of driving.

Default 2014 Suburban LTZ engine problems

One year ago my engine started misfiring and the dashboard lit up like a Xmas tree with various warning lights. Took it to the dealer and her recommended a "top clean" which cost me $2200. One year later at 115K the exact same thing has happened again. I've had three Suburbans and never had a single engine problem. My 2007 is still being driven by my son with 285K. Is this a common issue or did I get a lemon? I love this truck and would like to keep it. Just paid it off, purchased brand new 6.5 years ago and now this!

normal issue with several causes. No it's not a lemon.

top clean = quick buck

Default Advice!

Thanks for your reply! Do you have any advice other than to take it back to the dealer who apparently screwed me last time? Most appreciated!

I don't have any profound wisdom, no. Take it to a reliable mechanic. The first step will be to scan computer to see what errors it's reporting.
