Tis cheaper to keep her. Checked the window sticker on a 2015 Suburban and am glad that I've maintained my 2001. This fourth Suburban that I own has 233K and will have to last, because where prices have risen over 50% since 2001, my paycheck hasn't. I'd much rather throw $1000 a year into it rather than a $1000 a month payment. The higher prices do keep the value of these older vehicles higher as well, so spending the cash on them is easier to accept. And having this forum available makes things easier to save even more by doing it yourself.

 

I know right! for that price I can get a new truck AND a new travel trailer and have some money left over

I was considering the new Tahoe but with the family growing up and moving on, a four door truck might suit the wife and I's needs for pulling a camper trailer... I can get a pretty well equipped truck for ~$30k and about the same for a travel trailer ~$30k and still have change

 

$74,000 is what I came up with for a 2015 Suburban LTZ 4x4 setup the way I'd want.
GM didn't treat me right or build a Tahoe worth $55,000 in 2009, so... yea...
It's a shame, but they have no real competition. The Ford is too truck like on the inside and the MPG isn't great, and it needs a redesign. The Toyota is... too... weird on the inside. And Fiat (Chrysler) has more reliability problems than a drug-addict trying to operate a bulldozer.

 

The new ones are crazy expensive. If you want to really be shocked, take a look at the escalades...I mean isn't it a comparable truck with just fancier trim? Not only do they cost more, they sticker with worse gas mileage. Its like....I could buy a nice cottage some where....or an escalade..lol.

I think the best idea is to buy one that is a few years old, with decent mileage and an extended warranty (from GM). I'm sure the price would be expensive still, but maybe more palatable?

The 4 door pickups are really nice though, if I was buying new I'd go that route. You might save upwards of 40k, and still have most of the room and better capability for towing/hauling/etc. I guess as long as you don't need the 3rd row..

how about this beast? it's factory fresh from 1995. The thing hasn't change a bit in 20 years... truly disappointing.

 

Yes, those navigators are so old and dated looking. The interior seemed a bit better, but when making a house payment....well I want it to look nice on the outside just as much.

My buddy is a bigwig at Magna - he's the program director for the Escalade interior. Magna supplies the entire interior for the Escalade. I'm not saying it's worth the $90k+ sticker price, but the interior is a SIGNIFICANT step up compared to its siblings. You have to see it/sit in it to believe it.

 

You can always pickup a used one... 2-3 years old and it would go from $90k new to $60k used. Still not cheap, but $30,000 savings!

 

and the cost to make one is about 40-50 G. pretty good profit for a 80-90 G vehicle.
