2016 suburban brake issue after transmission rebuild
So my 2016 suburban 5.3 needed a tranny rebuilt at 100k. Found a local guy to do it, good reviews and everything. 4,500 to do it, seemed about right.
When I picked it up, the brakes were not functioning right. Never had a brake issue before. There 2 problems.
first - it makes a groaning/rubbing noise when you shift from park to drive or reverse. Sounds like it’s coming from the brakes anyway.
second - in stop and go traffic, like brake, inch forward, brake, inch forward, on about the 3rd brake the pedal goes squishy and goes to the floor barely stopping. When driving normally I don’t notice any brake issue.
the mechanic is fighting me saying he didn’t do anything to the brakes. I have no idea if he did or not or what he could have done to cause the problem. All I know is I dropped a truck with perfect brakes and picked it up with brake problems and it’s not drivable.
he said there’s a recall on the brake controller, fix is to reprogram and it effects the vaccum. I called Chevy and they said that recall repair was done already and it shouldn’t need to be redone. And if it did, the cel would be in which it isn’t.
So that’s where I’m at. Just wondering if anyone has any idea what the guy could have done to cause this when rebuilding the tranny or is the biggest coincidence ever that the brakes went to crap while it was sitting there for a week?

Ugh. Salt in the wound. First time in forever I paid with a check because he tacked on 3.5% for credit cards. 3.5% would have been totaly worth the "insurance." Hindsight and all, lesson learned. Really hoping he takes care of it, but I'm also not sure now that he even knows how.

Glad you figured it all out but I am kinda stunned how calmly you posted needing a tranny rebuild on a 2016 with only 100k on it.. Curious if there was any explanation as to what exactly broke on the tranny?? My neighbor's 2017 1500 pickup lost its tranny at like 90k last year and managed to get a warranty claim on it.
Maybe your steamed behind your words but I would clearly be showing my concerns with my words if I was me dealing with the same issue. This is why I am having a hard time moving past the 2014 models. All these premature issues really have me wanting to stay 2014 and under. I am running the original tranny with a current 232k miles on my 07 1500 suburban. with no filter and fluid changes!
