94 Suburban, No start issue
I have 94 Suburban K1500 5.7L
2 weeks ago, on a Monday, had mechanic (husband not mechanical) replace cap, rotor, plugs and wires, as engine REALLY needed it.
Ran fine, better than in long time, the next day, Tuesday.
Wednesday morning, son started up to move, it died as he was backing up. Would not restart, crank and crank and crank, no turning over. Tried jumping it, nothing (could hear fuel pump turn on during this, before beginning to crank). Then finally battery started dying, no crank at all, but still had headlights, dash lights, etc. (battery only 6 months old). Thought maybe alternator, took for testing, not the problem.
Husband came home, noticed a wire hanging that was previously connected to battery post. Put new wire connector on. Cranked for about 5 seconds, then nothing. But still had headlights, dash lights etc. Checked all fuses, all good.
Bench tested, and took to Napa, the starter. Starter good. It is getting power to it.
Husband wants to send to back to mechanic, but I want to exhaust everything we can do at home first. How do we test the coil? I've read that bad misfire (as it was doing before cap & rotor replacement) can fry the Ignition Control Module.
Any suggestions?
