Default 95 4X4 engagement ??

Hi, My 95 Suburban does not want to engage/disengage to 4X4 (as quickly) as in its younger years (sometimes 60-70sec.) not that i'm in a big hurry but it is slower than normal. Someone told me it uses some kind of heater to do this and its probably worn out.

Does any one know how this works and how can I fix it ??

Thanks Jack
