Hello my name is Quentin. I recently bought a 96 tahoe 4x4 with no transmission in it. I purchased a trans from a guy that told me he had a 4l60 that came out of a 96 or 97 silverado Well I put the trans in believing that he was honest when he said it worked. And I have no 3rd or forth gear. It shift to second fine and it goes in reverse. When I go the trans home I noticed the tag started with the number 5. Later on I found out that the first number in the identification tag is the year of the trans. Question is do I need to go out and buy another trans or can I use this one and change some stuff to make it work. Am I right by assuming it won' work because it a 95 4l60e. When I manually put the truck in 3 it moves so I'm kinda ruling out the bad 3-4 clutch pack. Secondly my neutral safety switch will not register what gear the truck is in on the inside
