96 Hoe 98000 miles oil pressure
My 96 Tahoe has 9800 miles on it and the oil pressure is dropping way down to almost nothing at idle in gear, then only goes up to about 35-45 in normal travel. Oil looks good. Power is a bit short pulling a 24' travel trailer for that motor. I wonder if it needs a new oil pump. Anyone care to offer some help? I appreciate any help I can get. Going from Black Hills to Osh Kosh, WI in two weeks with the camper and need my Hoe.

RE: 96 Hoe 98000 miles oil pressure
Chet,
Rarely will you see and oil pump that requires replacement and normally when you discover that the oil pump is bad it is after it has ruined your motor.
It is more likely that the oil pressure sending unit or the gauge is the cause for the 0psi reading at idle, this is fairly common on older vehicles.
Have you owned this Tahoe for some time and the power is dropping off or is it a recent purchase?

Thanks for the come back Z.Bought itnew. Put an after market pressure gauge on it because the stock was doing the same thing. It steadied for a while, but now is getting more pronounced. How tough is a sending unit to replace, should I attempt, or am I better to take it to a shop?
Have a good weekend!!!
