96 suburban trouble.
I have a 96 GMC suburban. It has the big block 7.6 vortec. I think, it may be 7.4. Anyway, its the big one. I love it, tons of power ect. If gas were $1 a gallon I would be in paradise! Anyway, i recently let the 40 Gal tank run low on fuel and have been having trouble with it. I can start it cold and drive it and it has not as yet stopped on my while running. BUT, if I turn it off and go in somewhere then come out and try to start it, it starts and runs for just seconds then putters out. Basically, it will start cold and run, but when warm it will not start. I assume that I have done something to the fuel pump and that after heating up the cylinder expands and the pump piston doesn't. I don't know. A friend of mine tells me that I am way off and that there is something in the distributor, an electronic part that replaced the coil that needs to be replaced. His idea comes from his friend who has a Blazer that was acting similar. His friend took the part out and cleaned it and it ran good for 2 weeks then the problems started up again. He assumes he just needs a new one. So, since the fuel pump is in the tank I haven't attempted to change it yet. Any thoughts would be appreciated, and if you know the name of the part in the distributor it would help. Thanks!
