97 Sub AC problems
I have a 1997 Chevy suburban 1500 LS. I was testing the AC today to see if it even works. I just got it in January and was told it didn't work at all.
So this is what I have done to test it...
Turned on engine, turned on max ac settings with ac switch on.
Air blows but not cold, and ac light turns on.
Bypassed the low pressure switch, compressor still did not turn on.
Bypassed the high pressure switch, compressor still did not turn on.
Bypassed both high and low, compressor did not turn on.
Bypassed both high and low and jumped the compressor with the negative grounded and postitive jumped to battery, clutch engaged and compressor turned on.
I tested the Voltage on the clutch switch with the engine on, the ac controls at max and both switches bypassed, no voltage at all.
Does this mean that I have a broken wire somewhere or does this mean my AC controller needs to be replaced. It does have fron and back ac, but right now I am just focusing on the front.
Thanks for any input.

not an ac expert but sounds like your off to good start. i would check if there's a relay somewhere in b/w the comp and the controls. if not might be a bad switch. can you test for voltage right before the clutch switch. if theres no voltage there it might be bad control.
Thank you for the reply, I will see if I can check the voltage before the clutch switch. I found a diagram for it and I should be able to check it easily.
Update: It was the fuse in the underhood fuse panel. I feel a little stupid for not checking it earlier. But on that note I had to bypass the low pressure switch for the compressor to come on. And if I am right that just means I am low on freon. I hope thats all it is, and that there are no leaks.
