Default '99 Sub brake switch prob.

My '99 Suburban has a problem with the brake light switch. It will make a clicking sound continuously and it eventually runs down the battery. I replaced it with a new one and the problem is still there. What could cause this and how do I fix it? Thanks.

Is it the switch itself or something nearby?

Its the switch. When its making the noise I can depress the brake pedal slightly and it will stop.

That makes it sound like it's more in the brake lite circuitry that's being activated by closing the brake light switch.

Any suggestions? I've already replaced the switch. What else is there? I really can't see anything because of where it is. The steering column is in the way.

Those switches are a common problem, and the wiring to them as well. I had one on a '97 that would stop operating, and I could reach under, wiggle the wires until it worked, and it would stay working for a day or a week. Finally I replaced the switch but I really think the problem was the wiring that went to it. I'd suggest that when it's clicking you get under there, and without depressing the brake try to find a wire that's frayed or badly connected, move things around until it hopefully it stops. Also, is your cruise control working ok?
